Curious about pottery, come and get your hands muddy and discover the magic of the wheel in this relaxed, beginner-friendly 2-hour session. Small classes of up to 5 people. You’ll be guided step-by-step through the basics of throwing clay, with plenty of time to play and experiment. You’ll choose your favourite pot from the session, which I’ll trim, glaze, and fire for you. Your finished piece will be ready to collect a few weeks later, a unique keepsake from your first spin at the wheel. Whether you’re looking to try something new, unwind, or just enjoy a couple of creative hours, this is a great way to dip your toe into the world of pottery. Please note: our classes are designed for makers 16+ years old. Class Breakdown (2 Hours) Preparing and wedging the clay Short demonstration on the pottery wheel Guided wheel time to create your own piece Choose your best pot to keep 10–15 minutes of clean-up at the end of class £70 per person - This includes one pot to keep, fully finished and glazed. Experience the magic of the pottery wheel in this private 2-hour session for 1 person, perfect for beginners or anyone curious about clay. You’ll have plenty of hands-on time at the wheel to practice and create your own pieces. At the end of the session you will choose your two favourite pots, which I will finish and glaze fire for you. I’ll take care of the trimming, glazing, and firing, and your finished pieces will be ready to collect in a few weeks. If you’d like to keep more than two, we’re happy to finish extra pots for £10 each, covering material, trimming, bisque firing, glazing in your chosen colour, and final glaze firing. Spend a full day at the wheel learning the fundamentals of pottery in a relaxed, supportive group setting. We'll start with a short demonstration to guide you through the basics of throwing, then you’ll get hands-on time to practice and create your own pieces. The session runs for 6 hours, including a 45 minute lunch break. There are plenty of lovely cafés nearby and along the river if you'd like to head out for food, or you’re welcome to bring your own and enjoy a break at the studio. By the end of the day, you'll have made several pieces, and you’ll get to keep your three favourite pots, which I’ll trim, glaze, and fire for you after the session. If you’d like to keep more than three, we’re happy to finish extra pots for £10 each, covering material, trimming, bisque firing, glazing in your chosen colour, and final glaze firing. All materials are included. Just bring your curiosity, clothes you don’t mind getting a little clay on. Aprons provided. This hands-on course introduces you to the fundamentals of wheel throwing across five guided sessions. You’ll learn the essential techniques, wedging, centering, pulling, shaping, and trimming, to create your own functional or decorative ceramic pieces. In the final class, we’ll explore glazing, giving you the chance to finish and fire up to 3 of your favourite pieces. If you’d like to keep more than three, that’s no problem, additional pieces will be weighed and charged based on their weight to cover the materials, glazing, and firings. This course is paced gently, with two classes per week, allowing time to rest, reflect, and return to the wheel with fresh energy. Perfect for complete beginners or anyone looking to reconnect with clay in a calm, welcoming space. All tools, materials, and firings are included. 5 Week Throwing Development Course This course is designed for potters who already have the basics under their belt, if you can confidently center clay and pull up walls, you’re ready to take the next step. Over five weeks, you’ll refine your throwing skills, explore new techniques, and work on more ambitious forms. Through guided projects and one-to-one support, you’ll learn to: *Improve consistency in your throwing * Explore shaping and refining taller and wider forms * Experiment with handles and joining techniques * Develop finishing and surface decoration In the final class, we will glaze up to 3 of your favourite pieces. If you’d like to keep more than three pots, that’s no problem, additional pieces will be weighed and charged based on their weight to cover the materials, glazing, and firings. The course is ideal for those who want to build confidence, stretch their skills, and start creating more complex, personal work. Group sizes are kept small to ensure plenty of individual feedback and hands-on support.

Two-Day Intensive Pottery Throwing Course Saturday & Sunday | 11am – 5pm Immerse yourself in a weekend of pottery and learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing in a friendly and supportive studio environment. This two-day intensive course is designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence on the potter's wheel. Over the weekend, you'll learn essential throwing techniques including centering clay, opening, pulling walls and shaping simple forms. Day One Learn the basics of wheel throwing and spend the day creating a range of pots while developing your skills through demonstrations and individual guidance. Day Two Return to the studio to trim and refine your favourite pieces from the previous day. You'll learn how to finish your work and prepare it for firing. There will be a one-hour break for lunch on both days. You're welcome to bring your own lunch, or take advantage of the many cafés, restaurants and food options available nearby in Chester city centre. At the end of the course, you'll choose three pots to keep, which will be glazed and fired for you to collect at a later date. £240 per person All materials, use of tools and equipment, glazing and firing of three finished pots are included. Pottery class questions, answered

Not at all. Our Taster Session (£70) and One Day Workshop (£145) are designed for complete beginners — you’ll be guided step-by-step through the basics of wheel throwing, and all materials and equipment are provided.

Wheel-throwing techniques including wedging, centering clay, pulling up the walls, shaping and trimming. Our 5-week courses also cover glazing and finishing, with hands-on demonstrations at every step.

Clay, tools, and kiln firing. Taster sessions include one finished pot, private sessions two, and full-day workshops three. Additional pieces can be finished for £10 each.

Tasters and private lessons run for 2 hours. The One Day Workshop is 6 hours including a 1 hour lunch break. Our 5-week courses total 10 hours across five sessions. Classes are for makers aged 16 and over.

Prices start from £70 for a 2-hour Taster. Private session for one is £150 and £50 per extra person. Full-day workshops £145 per person, and our 5-week beginner and development courses are £250 per person.
